Amid the ongoing tension between Iran and Israel, shocking information has come to light. Israel, renowned for its advanced security systems, is now using its most expensive weapons on a large scale—and the cost is rising with each passing night. According to media reports, Israel is spending crores of rupees every night to intercept Iranian missile and drone attacks. The cost of Israel’s defensive interceptors is extremely high. Small countries like Pakistan can hardly imagine this level of defence expenditure. So, let’s take a closer look: how expensive is Israel’s defence system, and how much is it spending every night to counter Iranian missiles?

Missiles Are Being Intercepted by These Defence Systems

This massive expenditure is directly linked to Israel’s multi-layered missile defence system, which includes three major interceptor systems: the Arrow System, David’s Sling, and the Iron Dome. Each has its own role, cost, and current operational status—and their stockpiles are rapidly depleting due to the ongoing conflict.

Arrow System's Hefty Price Tag

The Arrow System is designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles, particularly those launched by countries like Iran.

Cost per missile: USD 2 million to USD 3 million (approx. Rs 16.7 crore to Rs 25 crore)

Status: The stock of Arrow missiles is rapidly decreasing, which poses a serious concern for Israel’s security strategy.

David’s Sling: Mid-Range Protection

This system is used to intercept medium-range missiles, cruise missiles, and large rockets.

Cost per missile: Over $1 million (approx. Rs 8.3 crore)

Iron Dome: Defence Against Short-Range Attacks

The Iron Dome is designed to intercept rockets and mortars fired from Gaza and other nearby border areas.

Cost per missile: $20,000 to $100,000 (approx. Rs 16.7 lakh to Rs 83 lakh)

Role: It plays a critical part in defending against frequent short-range attacks.

Why Is Israel Worried?

According to the US media report, the United States was aware of this growing concern months ago. Now that the conflict is escalating toward the possibility of a full-scale war, Israel is facing a double challenge: managing both the financial burden and dwindling stockpiles of its defence interceptors.

Experts warn that if the conflict continues for an extended period, Israel will not only face severe economic strain but may also see a reduction in the overall effectiveness of its defence systems.

In contrast, countries and organisations such as Pakistan and Hamas cannot even conceive of a defence strategy at this level of sophistication and cost. This highlights Israel’s technological and strategic superiority—but how long this edge will last depends on how far the tension with Iran escalates in the coming days.
